YES! to Supportive Housing for Veterans, Unhoused Families and Vulnerable Youth
2838 Park Ave is a proposed affordable housing project with 36 homes in Soquel. This permanent supportive housing will include homes for Veterans, Transition Age Youth (those aging out of foster care), Unhoused Families with Children, and an on-site Manager.
This project is applying for significant state funding to build this affordable housing - $13.5 million through the Project Homekey program. 2838 Park Ave is one of several projects in Santa Cruz County to apply for this funding to provide much-needed new housing for homeless or at-risk individuals.
Let the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors know you SUPPORT a project that:
Provides 36 much-needed homes including:
17 homes for homeless veterans
Four (4) homes for families with children who are currently homeless and seeking housing with a voucher
14 homes for homeless youth, primarily those exiting the foster care system who are in need of housing
Includes supportive services designed to serve these residents and an on-site Manager.
Is near Cabrillo College, with higher education opportunities & several programs that serve youth who are at risk of homelessness, as well as veterans
Is eligible for the Project Homekey state funding
Includes a partnership with the Santa Cruz Housing Authority, County of Santa Cruz and the Central Valley Coalition for Affordable Housing for management
Some are pushing back on this project with all sorts of misinformation and obfuscations that show their bias against those who are low income and vulnerable and struggling to live in this area. Homes solve homelessness. The opportunity to live in an area with such resources should not be reserved for the privileged few.
