ACTION ALERT: Tell your CA legislators to support these pro-housing bills!
Background Information from YIMBY Action:
YIMBY Action is supporting California bills that advance our core housing goals by allowing more housing in more places; streamlining the permitting process; funding affordable housing; and reducing the incentives that make new housing unaffordable and unattainable. We are also championing efforts to keep public meetings public! Cities made participation in public meetings accessible online during the stay-at-home order. We want to preserve that access, which is why we support AB 339!
Show your support for the bills that will help end the housing shortage!
YIMBY Action’s Top 10 Bills to Support
SB 5 Affordable Housing Bond of 2022 from Senator Toni Atkins will fund the building of more housing at deeper levels of affordability for Californians.
SB 9 from Senator Toni Atkins, goes just a bit further than current ADU laws, SB 9 legalizes DUPLEXES and allows subdivisions of some lots to create infill homeownership opportunities in existing communities.
SB 10 from Sen Scott Wiener will help cities that are rezoning for missing middle housing by fixing cumbersome CEQA process for gentle infill. If a city is rezoning for up to 10 units, they won't have to do a crazy amount of expensive paperwork!
SB 478 from Sen Scott Wiener ends “Zombie Zoning” where cities create complicated rules that prevent zoning on paper from being implemented on the ground.
SCA 2 from Senators Ben Allen and Scott Wiener ends the ugly, racist prohibition of affordable housing in high opportunity communities by repealing Article 34.
AB 215 from Assemblymember David Chiu expands the authority of the California Department of Housing and Community Development to ensure that cities' housing elements comply with The Housing Accountability Act of 2019.
AB 339 from Assemblymembers Alex Lee and Cristina Garcia ensures the progress we've made in increasing access to public hearings will not be rolled back post-pandemic. This bill makes our government more accessible and more accountable to the people.
AB 672 from Assemblymember Cristina Garcia would allow cities with golf courses to convert them to infill housing and open space, especially important in park-poor communities in need of affordable housing.
AB 780 from Assemblymember Phil Ting and our friends at SPUR Urbanist will help struggling schools build badly needed housing for their workers. Teachers struggle to afford housing in the communities they serve, and we should give schools the ability to build those homes!
AB 1401 from Assemblymember Laura Friedman and our allies Abundant Housing LA reduces parking requirements on projects near transit, helping to bring down the cost of building housing.
