YES! to 100% Affordable Housing Pippin Phase II
UPDATE: The Board of Supervisors approved the design.
On Tuesday, December 7, the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors will be voting on the design review of the Pippin Phase II project, which is a 100% affordable housing project that checks off all the right boxes:
80 homes will go to households who earn between 30%-60% of Area Median Income.
About half of these homes would be filled through vouchers from the county’s Housing
Authority.12 of these homes are for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
39 of these homes are dedicated to farm workers.
And Watsonville Mayor Jimmy Dutra is shamefully rallying the troops to speak against this 100% affordable project next Tuesday.
That doesn't make sense.
Let's make sure this project moves forward. Sign the petition to let the County Supervisors know you SUPPORT approval of the design of this 100% affordable project.
More info:
MidPen Housing, a nonprofit developer, is leading the project. It is the second phase of the Pippin Orchards development that was completed in 2019 - there were nearly 2,500 families who applied for occupancy of one of the 46 units in Phase I.
Pippin Phase II design received unanimous support from the Santa Cruz County Planning Commission. When the MOU came up before the Watsonville City Council, there was only one opposing vote on the MOU: Watsonville Mayor Jimmy Dutra.
