Comment in Support of 831 Water Street
Tell the City of Santa Cruz that you support the proposed project at 831 Water Street! Here are a few reasons to love this project:
151 homes, with more than half affordable (77 units)!
47 Very Low-Income units (accounting for 30% of our RHNA goal)
High walkability and connections to transit
Vote for Pro-Housing in ADEMs
If you are a registered Democrat, request a ballot to vote for delegates in the ADEM election. These elected delegates to the State Democratic Party set the direction of the Democratic Party and control who earns critical endorsements for State Assembly, State Senate, US House, and US Senate.
We encourage you to vote for housing champions and Santa Cruz YIMBY leads Kyle Kelley and Rafa Sonnenfeld along with Kate Daniels and Ethan Sanchez.
Request your ballot by Monday, January 11.
Our Unhoused Neighbors Need Support and Housing
As YIMBYs we believe we need more housing at every level to address the chronic housing shortage and ensure abundant housing for everyone. Our growing homeless population is related to decades of under-building and our current affordability crisis. We strongly support permanent supportive housing projects like 119 Coral Street and call on our local leaders to make these projects "by-right" to address the urgent need for homeless housing.
The decision by the City of Santa Cruz to clear the homeless encampment at San Lorenzo Park without securing housing, shelter, or a safe place to sleep for the residents was shocking, particularly during a pandemic. Please share your thoughts on this matter with the city council. Write to citycouncil@cityofsantacruz.com, which gets distributed to each of the council members. Or let them know in person – virtually of course - at the upcoming meeting on Tuesday, January 12.
